Who we are
After leaving the Fair Grounds Vickie and I were given a great gift of time to spend watching our children grow from their High School to College years. Both of our children chose to stay home for college and go the LSU. In keeping with the culture we have been blessed with in South Louisiana we began to tailgate with family and friends. From this social coming together, sharing fellowship and family memories Tailgate Tigers was born.
Contact Us:
Tailgate Tigers is a 501c3 Charity raising funds for childhood cancer illnesses. We are a competition cooking team and event caterer. Our team members are family and friends, most of whom have cooked in competition events, for festivals around south Louisiana, been part of the professional foodservice industry in our area or just enjoy cooking for large groups of folks.
In 2014 Tailgate Tigers became an official entity to compete in the annual New Orleans Hogs for the Cause event. This event has become New Orleans newest big Spring festival. Hogs for the Cause is a BBQ competition. More importantly, Hogs is a major fund raiser supporting pediatric brain cancer victims and their families. To compete in this event teams must raise a minimum of $2,500 annually to support Hogs for the Cause in addition to covering the cost of your effort.
As a team we have finished as highly ranked as 2nd in the Boston Butt Category in 2018, 3rd in 2019 and 4th of 88 teams in Whole Hog in 2014. In addition our Rib, Pork Shoulder and Porkpourri (Open Category). We have typically been in the top 10 to 20 finishers of the 80 plus teams participating.
Fair Grounds Race Course has hosted our largest fundraising event for the last several years. Tailgate Tigers have cooked for the Delgado Dolphin and UNO Privateer Baseball teams for postgame meals. We have brought taste of our area to friends at Saratoga, NY. We have tailgated the Keeneland barn area in Lexington Kentucky feeding fried oysters, gumbo, red beans and jambalaya to expatriated bayou state horsemen. We have brought a taste of New Orleans iconic Mosca’s Restaurant for an evening at the Mellwood Art Center in Louisville, KY. We have also enjoyed producing fund raisers presenting white linen dining with paired wine accompaniment.
We look forward to seeing you at an event soon…
